EqWax began with one sensitive ex-racehorse and a simple desire: to care for him in a more natural, gentle way.

When we struggled to find horse care products that were kind to both horses and humans, we started making our own — using only natural, plant-based ingredients. Alison, who hated using harsh chemical sprays around her horse Camden, found that traditional products were not only unpleasant to use, but often ineffective over time. So we began experimenting with wax-based balms — a brush-on alternative that offered a more comfortable experience for horse and rider alike.

The results were immediate — Camden was happier, Alison could breathe easy, and soon friends at the yard were asking to try our homemade formulas. From this small beginning, EqWax was born.

In 2015, we officially launched EqWax with a mission to create natural, eco-conscious horse care products that work — without compromise. Every product is still handmade in the UK using plastic-free packaging wherever possible. We use aluminium tins not just because they’re durable and stylish, but because they’re infinitely recyclable — a choice that reflects our commitment to sustainability.

As the range grew to include favourites like our Hoof, Frog & Sole Balm and Mane and Tail Conditioner, so did our customer community — a loyal group of horse owners who care about what goes on their horses’ skin and into the environment.

In 2020, I (Shannon) joined the family business, bringing years of experience in the equine industry and a very sensitive ex-racehorse of my own, Rosie. Many of our latest products have been developed and tested with Rosie’s high standards in mind!

Today, Alison and Tony have officially retired, and I’m proud to have taken the reins at EqWax. While the faces may have changed, our values haven’t. I’m committed to continuing their mission — offering effective, natural grooming solutions that are kind to horses, humans, and the planet.

We’re always looking for better ways to reduce our carbon footprint, improve sustainability, and support healthy, happy horses — naturally.
